What are your thoughts?
Mieke suggested creating a 'photo montage' of travellers missing in Nepal (as well as Tibet and India) which could be to "make photos of the missing trekkers immediately visible". This could be used for posting on webpages or in the very least providing a link to so people can see all the photos in one click.
I've put together a few images and just wondered what your thoughts are. Here are three:
images removed as links have expired
I'm especially interested to know if you are happy with the images displayed of Gareth or if you'd prefer I use different ones.

lay-out (re: What are your thoughts?)
Just a thought I shouldn't elucidate on a public board, but I think there might be something to say for changing the order in which the photos are now presented, especially in the "poster" lay-out.
Furthermore, and in no way reducing my sincere compliments to Tan for what he created, I would appreciate if he could look into the possibility to add below every name (perhaps by using a smaller font for the names as well): month year
I.e. in Gareth's case that would be: March 2004
I think, but I'm no expert, that especially in relatively "fresh cases" people who have been in Nepal may automatically decide to look more closely. Also, adding the approximate time of disappearance (in Nepal) means that someone who last visited the country in say 1998 is likely to react differently from someone who was there in February, March, April of indeed 2004, or 2003, and so on.
And another remark is this:
Since these creations are in fact photos, it is impossible to copy the URLs mentioned on them (the URLs of the 4 relevant sites). I've tried several times, but like in general with pdf-documents I cannot copy a URL from these "posters" to use it to go to any of the websites mentioned.
Tan now used a Times (New) Roman font. And I wonder if, should he put the URL information in Arial or similar "straight, no frills" font, reading and remembering those URLs would be helped/improved, for readers new to the whole missing-trekkers-matters.
Or we could agree that in any future posting on other boards, apart from a link straight into the "Currently Missing" section of LITH we will also include the URLs or clickable links to each of the other 3 websites (Koch, Ratnasothy and HRDSN). If the URLs are in the plain text, people could copy and paste them.
Finally: these new photo montages give the possibility to post them in messageboard-profiles or sometimes inside web-replies, giving them a code so they become links automatically leading to any website you want to link to.
I know Tan has these codes, and I have them too.
Edit 4th August 2005 - both "old" montages re-hosted. "Missing in Nepal" , and

What are your thoughts? Feedback
Tan,
I would agree with some of mieke's views in that perhaps on the poster layout that the photo’s are dated from when they were last seen i.e. Gareth 8th March 2004 and that they start from top left, most recently missing.
If you could make all the links, yours plus the three others clickable I think this will help as wherever these are posted you would be able to go to web site in question.
Tan, as for the photos of Gareth you have used these will be fine. I would very much like to use the rotating montage (probably on our homepage) but due to my lack of knowledge I’m not sure how to do this. Perhaps you could let me know by mail if this is OK and how I can make changes to it by adding dates etc.

Re: What are your thoughts?
I agree with the comments about the dates and I will update them all so they include them. Will month/year be fine or do you think location should be included too?
Unfortunately, I can't make the links clickable as they're images. What I will investigate is adding HTML code so the links can appear below the image instead of as part of the image. I'm not an expert at HTML so please bear with me!
David, you can post the rotating image as you would a normal picture, i.e. just put the URL wherever you would normally put the code on your site. As it's .gif file all the images and text are contained within the file. I will mail you some more details about this.

Re: What are your thoughts?
Tan,
Yes I think month, year and location would be good (if you can fit it in).
Thanks for the info regarding the rotating montage and not being an expert either (still learning) the more information on how to post this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: What are your thoughts?
I'm just posting this code here for David and anyone who wants to know the HTML code to add so you get an image with the three clickable URLs below it. The image can be clicked too and will redirect to the LITH 'currently missing' section. The image I have used is the rotating .gif image (they will be updated soon).

Here's a guide to the code which anyone can edit but please remember to include the speech marks (").
quote:
<center><a href="URL you want people to be directed to when they click on the image"> <img src="URL of image"></a></br>
| <a href="URL #1">Text to be displayed for URL #1</a> | <a href="URL #2">Text to be displayed for URL #2</a> | <a href="URL #3">Text to be displayed for URL #1</a> |</center>
Just a comment to add in addition to earlier posts, if you are using the images posted above on bulletin/message boards it is probably unlikely that most of them will support HTML for normal users so if you want to add URLs below they will have to be done manually using the boards own codes.

Re: What are your thoughts?
Tan,
Thanks for the code. As you can see from our website home page I have with the help of Adam placed the montage and the link to your site.
We did it a slightly different way than you suggested but it seems to work.

Re: What are your thoughts?
David, it works indeed!
In the mean time I've managed to update the images with the added text and re-ordering, as you may notice already above.

slight problem? (re: What are your thoughts?)
David, Adam and Tan,
Can there be a "bug" somewhere, because on this runboard for Gareth one of the photos in the rotating poster shows only the top side of the photo, whereas the same poster presently in the Photo page-thread on LITH as well as in my Thorn Tree profile does not show this 'error'.
As per Tan's request in the thread on LITH last night, I changed the URL I use in my TT profile. This is the one in there now:
http://www.imghst.com/uploads/lostinthehimalaya/nepal31.gif . And this is the TT profile.
(21/2 Note: remarks no longer applicable, since both userprofiles have been changed)
I noticed it earlier this morning and checked it out several times, but the way I myself can see the rotating poster, it shows okay on LITH and on TT but here in this thread on the runboard, the lower part of the photo of Franck (incl. the space with his name & details) is a blank, grey field. I'm interested if you see the same error, and if so I'm sure you'll want to do your best to "cure" this.
kind regards,
mieke

one URL (re: What are your thoughts?)
Found something, I think.
The URL in here now for the rotating poster is:
http://www.imghst.com/uploads/lostinthehimalaya/nepal1.gif
The URL on TT (beige background):
http://www.imghst.com/uploads/lostinthehimalaya/nepal31.gif
The URL on LITH (blue background):
http://www.imghst.com/uploads/lostinthehimalaya/nepal21.gif
The URL mentioned on LITH (white background)
http://www.imghst.com/uploads/lostinthehimalaya/nepal1.gif
Just checked it and the problem is in the ....nepal1.gif URL.
