Kristina's trek from Jiri up to Dole – a reconstruction
As per the wishes of her friends as well as other trekkers, on the Austrian/German Trekkingforum.com a combined effort was started on May 19 to sort of "reconstruct" some of Kristina's trek from Jiri into the direction of Gokyo.
The idea was to try and paint a picture of the nice and pleasant experiences she must have had, but also try to collect solid information about the condition of the trail near Dole, and about circumstances that may have caused her tragic, fatal fall.
The fact that when her body was recovered, it turned out all her possessions had been stolen has upset not only her relatives and friends, but some of the experienced Nepal trekkers as well.
But it should be clear to everyone, and no matter how nasty this sounds, that she may well have been robbed only "post mortem". Meaning: no foul play involved regarding her fall down into the deep gorge. The trail is narrow and it was extremely slippery in those days, as many have reported. And it wás scary to walk there, due to the weatherconditions, that week of March 2006.
Many trekkers from a variety of nationalities agreed to supply their (witness) experiences re. the Gokyo Valley in that week of March. Some by agreeing that their contributions on other webforums, would simply be copied into the special "reconstruction"-thread.

news and developments as of June 2006
Posted June 26
On Friday June 23 a "Closure ceremony" (Trauerfeier) took place in Kristina's hometown.
And also last week a reliable source reported that apparently in the meantime one of her "valuable possessions", i.e. her camera, was found back: in Nepal.

Trauerfeier Kristina - Trekkingforum.com June 10
(Announcement of a closure ceremony to take place in Kristina's hometown on June 23, current state of developments, and a "thank you" on behalf of Karolin to all who have helped her in the search for her sister).
Quotes:
In the presence of my girlfriend and with a porter we walked from Lukla.
As other trekkers had told us already, the office at the entrance of the Sagarmatha Park was being renovated.
The entrance fee, however, was required to pay up in Namche Bazar.
In the register with arrivals and departures only very few entries were recorded.
What events took place in Namche Bazar, is more up to Karolin to elaborate.
Whether the cause of death is due to an accident or foul play, is still being investigated.
Upon return in Kathmandu another pressconference took place. Details about the recovery operation will be supplied by Karolin later, in Germany (has its reasons!)
Once permission was received, she carried out her decision to let the cremation take place in Kathmandu. Christians are cremated at Teku Temple, not at Pashupatinath. In the presence of a small number of people, we have said farewell to Kristina there.
A ceremony in church is to take place on June 23 in Neckartenzlingen.
On behalf of Karolin I appreciate to express many thanks for the donations that were made.
Thank you also for the helpful postings and e-mails. Especially the ones too about the situation previously around Dole!
We also thank Dhruv of the Intl. Media Network of Nepal (The Himalayan Times), the Head of Interpol in Kathmandu and Raja (owner of the All Export Café) for all their help these past weeks.
And last but not least the many friends of Karolin, who have helped us with all this!

German Kristina missing in everest "Found!! - Trekinfo.com May 23
Edit July 31: well, that was one thread that didn't really last long...
And meanwhile even the entire "Safety & Travel forum" on Trekinfo.com is no longer there as long as people are not logged in...
