GET YOUR HAIR CUT FOR A GOOD CAUSE
What do you do if you have not had a good hair cut for over two years?
Well you get people to pay you money to have it cut and then donate the money to help in the serach for Gareth.
This is what my good friend Tony did and below are the pictures to prove it.

Donations
Perhaps it's not such a bad idea, David, to open a special account and publish its details, in terms of "fundraisings". It might inspire other people, not necessarily based in the United Kingdom, to organise some activities and raise money to help you cover your expenses.
And also apart from organising some special event, there may be people who would like to make a donation, to be able to show their sympathy and help your family to find out what happened to Gareth, and where he is now. Please consider this possibility
In that case, you may like to consider changing the title-line of your post into something more 'general' like 'Fundraising/Donation' f.e.
